Moshe Feiglin: Trump is Dangerous for Israel

Former Likud party Knesset member Moshe Feiglin had harsh words for presidential hopeful Donald Trump, warning Israelis the real estate magnate would not be a good friend to the Jewish State, Israel National News reported Sunday. Feiglin, who has founded the Zehut (Identity) party since leaving Likud in January, told the Israeli news source that Trump is “the most dangerous candidate for Israel”.

“He is dangerous for Israel. People say he’ll get things done, that he’s just like a bulldozer,” Feiglin said.

“That reminds me of what people said about Ariel Sharon before he became Prime Minister. ‘The bulldozer’ is what they called him, and we all know how that ended – with Jewish communities destroyed in Gush Katif. Trump is also a bulldozer; a bulldozer without a driver.”

Feiglin has nothing better to say about Trump’s opponents, however. His perspective mirrors that of the Bible: Israel cannot rely on the support of foreign governments.

“What matters here is not whether there is a Republican or a Democrat in the White House; what’s important is our identity and our connection to the Land of Israel,” he said. “If we have that, America will stand with us. If we don’t, they’ll work against us, whether it’s a left-wing Democrat or a conservative Republican.”

Feiglin pointed out that the devastating 2005 disengagement from Gaza, in which thousands of Jews were uprooted from their homes, took place during the tenure of George W. Bush, widely regarded as being supportive of Israel.

“The best of example of how irrelevant this all is goes back to Sharon again. Remember, when Sharon wanted to push his Gaza Disengagement plan, he had to work to convince [President] Bush to support it.

“Of course my concerns over Trump do not mean I support Hillary Clinton, who I think wouldn’t be a friend to Israel at all, and Bernie Sanders even more so. The point is don’t put your faith in foreign leaders. Ultimately, they don’t decide what will happen here. And all of them, Republicans and Democrats, will be acting with America’s interests in mind, not ours.”

Misplaced faith in foreign governments is a recurring theme across the books of the Prophets. It is only through the grace of God that Israel continues to thrive in the hostile environment of the Middle East.
