Two Border Police officers were stabbed outside the Old City of Jerusalem Friday morning in what is the second terror attack in less than 24 hours.

The incident occurred outside the Lion’s Gate in East Jerusalem as Muslim worshippers were leaving the Temple Mount after morning prayers.

The attacker approached one of the officers, aged 19, and stabbed him in the neck. A second officer, 35, came to the aid of his fellow officer and was stabbed in the hand as he struggled to subdue the attacker.

Both officers were moderately injured in the struggle and were transported to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem for treatment.

The attacker managed to flee the scene. Security forces immediately launched a search in the area.

Friday mornings attack follows a Thursday evening firebomb attack in Samaria in which an 11-year-old girl was seriously injured.

Ayala Shapira and her father Avner were driving near the Samarian town of Ma’ale Shomron when a Molotov cocktail struck their car.

The car burst into flames and the father managed to rescue his daughter from the burning vehicle, carrying her over a kilometer to the nearest town for help, Channel 2 reported.

The girl suffered third degree burns over most of her body and face and was placed into a medically induced coma. Professor Zeev Rotsein, director of the Sheba Medical Center, told the media that the girl suffered life threatening burns and that “we will do everything in order to save her life.”

Scene of the Firebombing

“We saw the firebomb being lit above the road and the bottle being thrown,” Shapira told Ynet from his hospital bed. “I shouted to my daughter to get out of the car and she managed to do it. Thanks to the grace of God we managed to get out of the car, but she was injured much more seriously than I.”

Shapira said that his wife’s car was firebombed last month as she was on her way home. She managed to escape and suffered only very minor injuries. However, the car was severely damaged in the attack.

The IDF said the attack occurred on Route 55 at approximately 6:30 pm. Large numbers of IDF troops were deployed to the area to search for the terrorists behind the attack.
