Terrorist

Now in the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, on the thirteenth day of the same, when the king’s commandment and his decree drew near to be put in execution, in the day that the enemies of the Jews hoped to have rule over them; whereas it was turned to the contrary, that the Jews had rule over them that hated them; the Jews gathered themselves together in their cities throughout all the provinces of the king Ahasuerus, to lay hand on such as sought their hurt; and no man could withstand them; for the fear of them was fallen upon all the peoples. (Esther 9:1-2)

In an attempted arrest raid by the IDF an armed terrorist was shot dead in an early morning firefight with Israeli forces in Judea and Samaria on Monday, according to The Times of Israel.

According to the sources, Israeli forces arrived in Na’ama, a village near Bil’in, to arrest several suspects, and one fled and hid, armed, in a nearby cave in an open area.

Israeli forces besieged the cave and after exchanged fire for several hours before killing the suspect, sources said. The suspect was later identified as Mohammad Assi. He was wanted by the IDF for allegedly planning last year’s bus bombing attack in Tel Aviv, according to Arutz7.

Residents said that overnight the IDF had deployed a very large force in the area and gunfire and several explosions were heard, Ynet News reported.

The soldiers, from a special forces unit, reportedly killed the suspect by shooting a Stinger shoulder-fired missile into the cave.

Two other suspects were arrested without incident: Mohammad Saif, an Islamic Jihad member recently released from prison, and WIlliam Abu Adi, a Hamas member, also recently discharged. A third suspect was also reportedly arrested.

Also on Monday, the IDF discovered a roadside bomb planted along the Gaza border fence, The Times of Israel reported. The bomb was safely removed and no injuries were reported.

The troops found the explosives during routine operations on the border, and bomb-disposal engineers detonated the device in a controlled explosion. The route the bomb was placed on was a common one used by IDF vehicles.

“Explosive devices and tunnels will not deter the IDF from maintaining the access required in order to safeguard the civilians of Israel from Hamas terrorism,” the IDF said in response to the incident.
