In the opening address at the Jerusalem Post Diplomatic conference in Jerusalem, Minister of Transport Yisrael Katz told attendees that he supports US President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel’s capital and move the American Embassy to Jerusalem.
“Whoever does not recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel does not recognize the right of Israel to exist as a Jewish state,” Katz said. “A recognition by the United States and by other countries of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel will make it clear to the Palestinians that they must accept the existence of Israel and that it is time to conduct real negotiations for peace with Israel.”
He said he expects the international community to support President Trump’s decision.
“Next year in Jerusalem,” said Katz, referring to the messianic vision of the Temple being rebuilt in our time in Jerusalem.
Katz also expressed concern that Iran wants to turn Syria into a base against Israel and the Sunni countries in the region.
“If Iran bases itself militarily in the Middle East, it will lead to instability in the region,” he said.
