An IDF soldier was seriously injured on Friday when a grenade exploded in his hand during an exercise. The 20-year-old soldier, from an Orthodox religious family, was undergoing a course in throwing grenades at a range during basic training for artillery at the Shivta base in southern Israel. The soldier’s hand was amputated during his treatment.
An investigation into the incident is being conducted and the use of grenades during live-fire exercises is being suspended until the investigation is complete.
The family requested that the public pray for his recovery. In Jewish tradition, such prayers include the person’s name and their mother’s name. In this case, prayers for the soldier should be for the recovery of Noam Shimon ben (the son of) Miriam.
