Thousands of Palestinians Flood Temple Mount on Last Day of Ramadan

Over 300,000 Palestinians flooded the Temple Mount in Jerusalem overnight on Thursday to observe Laylat al-Qadr (night of power), the last night of the month-long fast period of Ramadan, despite recent deadly terror attacks in the city.

Following a deadly attack last Friday in which three Palestinian terrorists killed Hadas Malka, a 23-year old IDF Border Policewoman, Israel suspended permits for Palestinians aged 12-40 allowing them to travel from Judea and Samaria into Jerusalem. For this final day of Ramadan, Israeli authorities are still permitting men above the age of 40, women of all ages, and children younger than 12 years of age to enter Jerusalem without a permit.the besieged Gaza Strip to Jerusalem. The trips have been carried out each Friday since the start of Ramadan.
WAFA, a Palestinian News Agency, reported on the event.
Addressing the worshipers at the holy site, Sheikh Omar Kiswani, the mosque’s director, said the masses of worshipers who attended the overnight prayers at al-Aqsa Mosque confirms to the entire world that “they [worshipers] came here to reaffirm the Islamic nature of this mosque and defend it.”
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Israel is going to institute increased security measures at the Damascus Gate entrance into the Old City. Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan said there have been 32 attacks in the area over the past two and a half years. The plans are said to include watchtowers, cameras, an constant drone surveillance.
