The song of Ha’azinu, the source of today’s verse, comes at the conclusion of Moses’s sojourn through the desert with the people of Israel. The song is filled with important messages to the Israelites, their leader’s parting words before his successor Joshua would come to take his place and lead the people into the Land. The message of fire and utter destruction that would befall the enemies of God is eerily similar to the reality Israelis faced two weeks ago as hundreds of fires were set all over the Holy Land, causing tens of thousands of people to flee their homes. As a result of what’s being called the ‘arson intifada’, over 1,600 people were left homeless, their houses completely destroyed and none of their belongings remain. Your prayers are needed and so is your financial support.
