When Moses sends out the spies to the Land of Israel, he gives two agricultural directives. He tells the spies to notice the quality of the soil, and if there are trees in the the Land. In those two small inquiries, Moses points out a parallel between the physical and spiritual qualities of the Promised Land. Just as the Land is prime for spiritual closeness to God, so too is the soil blessed with rich nutrients and fruitful vegetation.
