The Quds News Network on Tuesday released a GIF on Facebook encouraging its visitors to find out: “Which Martyr are You?”
The GIF flashes through a sequence of photos of Palestinian terrorists, all of whom murdered Jews in recent months. Quds asks people to click the GIF image, causing the series to stop in place, and comment whose face appeared when they clicked.
This is only one of hundreds of articles, videos, photos, and statements published by the news network. The fan page itself boasts nearly 4.5 million likes glorifying terror and encouraging its viewers to carry out similar attacks against Jews in Israel.
Users on Facebook are given the option to report posts that “advocates violence or harm to a person or animal,” which violate Facebook Community Standards. Reported posts are then sent to Facebook for review. According to the Israeli Channel 10 news, the Quds page has been reported thousands of times. Yet despite countless complaints, the social media network has not seen fit to remove it.
The Quds network also appears on Instagram and Twitter, utilizing social media to applaud violence and incite its followers to carry out attacks.
At the time of publishing, the GIF has nearly 6,000 “likes”, 450 “shares” and well over 2,000 comments.
The evident anti-Israel sentiments expressed by Facebook by its refusal to remove the page come as no surprise. Only last month, an experiment was done highlighting Facebook’s anti-Israel bias. The results showed Facebook’s quick response to any anti-Palestinian incitement, forcing a shutdown of the page. At the same time, the page inciting violence against Jews and Israel was left alone.
