The attack took place on Hatzvi Street near the corner of Yermiyahu Street. Pedestrians stopped and helped the soldier stop the bleeding until paramedics arrived to give emergency treatment.
The soldier was taken to Hadassah University Medical Center in Ein Kerem. He is now listed as being in light condition.
According to the Israel Police, the terrorist, 30, was held by a nearby security guard after the attack until police officers arrived at the scene.
The terror attack was the third of the weekend. On Saturday morning, a terrorist was shot and killed in an attempted stabbing in Jerusalem’s Tzahal Square, opposite the Old City. The Palestinian man, 26, had charged two officers with a knife.
A few hours later, a terrorist rammed his car into IDF troops manning a checkpoint near Hawara, south of Nablus, lightly wounding one soldier in the leg. The terrorist was shot dead by soldiers.
Jerusalem, which had been relatively calm, has seen a sharp increase in violence in the past week, with a stabbing attack that killed two on Wednesday.
