French fighter jets carried out a series of bombing raids on the Syrian city of Raqqa, a known stronghold of the ISIS terror group, on Sunday, France’s Defense Ministry confirmed.

The airstrikes, which destroyed a training camp and command post, comes two days after a string of treacherous terror attacks launched by ISIS in Paris on Friday, which claimed the lives of 129 people.

“The first target destroyed was used by Daesh (acronym for ISIS) as a command post, jihadist recruitment centre and arms and munitions depot,” a ministry statement said. “The second held a terrorist training camp.”

According to AFP, 12 warplanes, including 10 fighter bombers, dropped a total of 20 bombs on a series of terror targets in the self-declared capital of the ISIS terror group.

The ministry revealed that French warplanes took off from Jordan and the United Arab Emirates and the strikes were conducted in conjunction with US forces.

French President Francois Hollande vowed to mercilessly attack the jihadist group following what has become the deadliest attack on France since World War II.

With strikes against ISIS taking place just north of Israel, Israeli Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon told Israel Radio on Monday that the country is not worried about the threat posed by the terror group.

Despite being surrounded by radical Islamists along most of Israel’s borders, Ya’alon expressed his belief that ISIS is avoiding a direct confrontation with Israel. He added that the terror group has no organized or meaningful presence in Israel, Judea or Samaria.

“Daesh exists in Syria. We are following its presence there. They have their Sinai Province, as they call it, on the Egyptian border. There are a few ISIS supporters in Gaza, which Hamas is battling there; that’s an interesting phenomenon,” Ya’alon explained.

Despite having supporters in Gaza, “Daesh hasn’t opened a front against us – because they would simply get hurt.”

“In the West Bank there are a few cells. We took out an ISIS cell there a while ago,” he continued. “A few dozen Israeli Arabs went to fight with them [in Syria]. But overall, internally, including among Israeli Arabs and in the West Bank, this is under control.”

The defense minister emphasized that Israel was more worried about the threat posed by Iran and its proxies in the region than by ISIS. “Iran’s presence around us worries me, the fact that what is happening in Syria is empowering Iran,” Ya’alon stated. “And over the past year we’ve worked to prevent Iran opening a front on the Golan.”
