Hanukah is similar to celebrating Israel’s Independence Day. That’s because the holiday also commemorates the victory of a tiny group of stubborn Jews fighting for sovereignty and freedom, against an enemy much more powerful and well equipped. And by the grace of God, both accomplished a decisive victory.
And wile the Macabeean Revolt took place over 2,000 years ago, the heroes who liberated parts of Israel in 1948 are who we know as the soldiers of the IDF. And it was the same Israeli troops who liberated the same region that the Maccabees did in Judea and Samaria during the Six-Day-War of 1967. And just like in the times of the Maccabees, the liberation of the land of Israel has come in stages and at a heavy price.
This is probably why back in 2017, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that ‘Israel’s soldiers are the modern day Maccabees’.
That’s because despite impossible odds, the tattered remains of the Jewish people rebuilt and reclaimed their homeland — the same one that Simon the Maccabee reclaimed more than 2,100 years ago.
And this Hanukkah can be your chance to support these modern-day Maccabees. That’s because there is one organization that is helping to support Israel’s heroic troops – Yahad.
Yahad, among other things provides upscale apartments for Israeli soldiers while on leave. Their incredible efforts have enabled Israel’s heroes to enjoy their time off to the fullest extent possible. They do this by renting out beautiful apartments for them that are centrally located in Jerusalem with a fully stocked fridge. Aside from the added comfort level that they enjoy, donating to organizations like Yahad allow these modern day Maccabees to rest assured knowing that those who stand with Israel throughout the world have their back.
