Imagine your son (or grandson) tells you that he is leaving for Israel to join Israel’s army.
You might freak out a bit. You might feel some trepidation. Either way, the most important thing for you is that he’ll stay safe – both on and off the battlefield.
And as strange as this scenario may sound, this is actually a growing phenomenon in Jewish homes throughout the US, Canada, France and across the world. These particular soldiers are referred to as chayalim bodedim (lone soldiers). More and more Jewish young men (and women) are leaving their family behind and coming to Israel on a holy mission, just like their ancestor Abraham did in the book of Genesis:
Hashem said to Avram, “Go forth from your native land and from your father’s house to the land that I will show you. (Genesis 12:1)
So what can a Jewish mother in Houston, Vancouver or London do to keep her son safe while fighting the world’s cruelest jihadists. On the battlefield itself, there’s not much they can do. But when they are on leave. a lot can be done. And this can be your opportunity to help.
Here’s the thing – Most people don’t realize that IDF soldiers get leave every weekend or every other weekend. And while most Israeli troops go home to their parent’s house, the lone soldiers don’t get to enjoy that luxury…but there is a silver lining.
That’s because the YAHAD-United for Israel’s Soldiers organization provides beautiful apartments for lone combat soldiers serving in the IDF. The apartment features three lone combat soldiers living in each apartment.
Each soldier receives his own room and private space. The apartments are fully furnished with all necessary electrical appliances provided which means their short, 48 hour leave doesn’t have to be consumed with shopping for basic household items.
The apartment’s comfortable and spacious beds will provide them with the rest they very much need to keep going. To keep protecting God’s land. But more importantly, realizing that their comfortable living quarters are made possible thanks to the Jewish people as well as the nations who support Israel will remind who has their back. It’ll also help them remember why it’s so important to guard the holy land.
This is your chance to offer Israel’s finest a sliver of comfort between digging ditches and dodging bullets. This is your chance to donate to better the IDF.
