FL Governor DeSantis Prayed Near Temple Mount to Avoid Hurricane

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R) prayed in Israel that his state will not get hit by any hurricanes this year reported Fox News.

DeSantis revealed on Monday that he observed the Jewish tradition of placing a piece of paper with a written out prayer in between the cracks at the Western Wall in Jerusalem during his May visit to the Jewish state. The Western Wall was the retaining wall of the Temple Mount.

“Good Lord, spare us hurricanes this year,” the governor of the Storm Prone state said he wrote on the note.

He recalled the prayer in Ft. Meyers while he announced a federal reimbursement request that can give Florida communities up to $150 million in relief aid from the costs involved with cleaning up after Hurricane Irma in 2017.

The White House is supposed to approve the request.

Florida Emergency Management Director Jared Moskowitz noted he inserted a prayer note as well — identical to that of the governor’s — during the same trip in May.

President Donald Trump was the first sitting president to visit the Western Wall and place a note in it in May 2017.

As of yet, Florida has not been hit by any hurricanes so far in this year’s storm season, which typically runs between August and October. However, one did happen in July of 2005.

Although the Wall has been a popular place for prayer since the destruction of the Second Temple, in 70 C.E., the earliest example of inserting prayer notes at the Western Wall took place in the mid-16th century. Rabbi Gedaliah of Semitzi visited Jerusalem as well as the Western Wall in 1699 and wrote the first recorded evidence of prayers being written down and left inside the crevices of the Wall.
