Birmingham Doctor Calls Out Fellow Jews in Congress: ‘We are Our Own Worst Enemies’

I’ve been thinking about this for a long time. I cannot put off writing it any longer.

Although painful to acknowledge, I’ve concluded a number of highly-visible Jewish Members of Congress (M.O.C.) are responsible, in large part, for the alarming increase in anti-semitism being witnessed and experienced in the United States, today. I can do this … I’m Jewish. I’m an M.O.T. I’ve got the credentials.

Specifically, I lay blame on an identifiable subset of M.O.C. who are also: Jewish.

Schumer (D), Nadler (D), Schiff (D), FeinsteinI (D), Blumenthal (D), Wyden (D), Wasserman-Schultz (D), Raskin (D), Schakowsky (D), Sherman (D), Engle (D), and Cohen (D).

I blame them for behaving and speaking in ways that are so far out-of-touch with the thoughts, hopes, beliefs, dreams, aspirations, consciences and ideals of ordinary, fundamentally good and decent, mainstream Americans … they have become highly-animated, emotionally-charged examples of the unfortunate but ever so convenient “Jewish Stereotype.”

Surprised by this assertion? Disagree? Think I’m off-base? I don’t think I am.

Consider: STEREOTYPE, is defined as “an over-generalized belief about a particular category of people. Stereotypes are generalized because ONE ASSUMES THAT THE STEREOTYPE IS TRUE FOR EACH INDIVIDUAL PERSON IN THE CATEGORY.”

Moreover, out of the stereotype, PREJUDICE emerges. We all understand (at least in a general sense) what is meant by PREJUDICE. But it helped me to look up and re-read its technical definition: PREJUDICE is defined as “an affective feeling towards a person or group member based often on that person’s group membership (tribal behavior).”

The word PREJUDICE is often used to refer to preconceived, USUALLY UNFAVORABLE, feelings towards people or a person because of their religion, political affiliation, sex, beliefs, values, social class, race/ethnicity, age, disability, sexuality, nationality, appearance, occupation, education, criminality, or other personal characteristics.

In this case, it refers to a NEGATIVE evaluation of another person based on that person’s perceived group membership.

When the silent images of those MOCs whom I have identified (above) even appear in a publication, on the internet or on television, I cringe.

Moreover, when they start playing to the cameras and microphones by arrogantly espousing their self-righteous “stances,” I am beyond embarrassed … I am beyond ashamed … I am mortified. Why? As a Jew myself, I will be the first to admit, albeit sadly and with heavy heart, that when those MOCs behave in the way the always do, they nourish and feed stereotypical prejudice and fan the embers of Jew-hatred into raging flames.

There are numerous examples of how these specific MOCs have betrayed and reputationally harmed other Jews throughout this country; by their arrogant, self-righteous behavior and indefensible positions on critical issues such as: abortion in general and late-term abortion (infanticide) in particular; illegal aliens, sanctuary cities, the elimination of ICE, open borders; “PC” driven assaults on The Constitution itself, freedom of speech (the 1st Amendment), gun control (the 2nd Amendment), Fast and Furious; Benghazi; the IRS Scandal (let us not forget Lois Lerner, also a M.O.T.); The Associated Press Phone Records Scandal; the Keystone XL Pipeline Scandal; the Obamacare Deception; the NSA PRISM Surveillance Scandal; the JamesRosengate / Fox News Scandal; Solyndra and countless other betrayals of trust. Who among them has called for censure of AOC, Ilhan Ohmar and Rashida Tlaib? The answer is revealing: None.

Thus, I cannot remain silent any longer. Someone has to call them out. Someone Jewish has to come forth and shine the white-hot light of truth on their hypocrisy … and as distasteful, untidy and personally-damaging as its pronouncement might prove to be for this writer, I have chosen to assume the risk.

This small group of effete snobs masquerading as guardians of liberty and as the lone custodians of “truth, compassion and morality” demonstrate the validity of the premise I have long believed: WE (JEWS) ARE OUR OWN WORST ENEMIES.

We enable these “self-anointed visionaries” by not calling them out, by remaining silent to the elephant in the room — by pretending the public does not consciously or subconsciously stereotype when these particular MOCs shoot-off their mouths, defending the indefensible with their “holier than thou” attitude of moral superiority.

I have tried to make this point, for years, to one of the most respected and beloved leaders of Birmingham’s Jewish Community. He is a good and decent man; but he has always been in uncomfortable denial — and he is not alone. Moreover, because I have been a relentless voice of conscience, an ever-present pebble in his shoe, his disdain for me has become palpable.

So be it. He may mean well by his obsequious groveling to social pressures in the “community” but as it is said, “the path to Hell is paved with well-meaning intentions.”

So … what can I do? What can one nondescript, very common, very ordinary, G-d fearing, G-d loving, grateful-to-be-an-American, Jew do to attempt to offset at least a tiny bit of the egregious behavior, pronouncements and images of several co-religionists who, unfortunately, sit in the Congress of the United States of America?

The short answer is “not much.” But despite my personal insignificance, for me, it has come down to just two actions:

(1) Tell it like is and call ‘em out by name; and,

(2) Offer to my fellow Americans, of all faiths, a humble and sincere apology for the disgraceful behavior and inane, arrogant, conceited, self-serving utterances of those few Jews in Congress, who have made it humiliating and dangerous for so many others.

Please believe me: We Jews, as a People whose religious theology constitutes the foundational underpinnings of Christianity, are not like them … we are not like them at all. They are societal, cultural and theological aberrations. They are also disgraceful embarrassments. They shame us.

Please try not to make measure of the rest of us by their egregious metrics.
