Suspected Killer of Raziel Shevach Shot Dead In Overnight Raid in Jenin.

The IDF, Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) and Border Police special forces shot dead the suspected killer of Rabbi Raziel Shevach and arrested two other men in a raid in Jenin overnight. Two members of the Border Police Yamam counter terrorism unit were injured in an exchange of fire, one of them seriously, an army spokesman said.

Palestinian sources named the dead man as Ahmed Naser Jrar, 22,  the son of Naser Jrar, a senior Hamas leader in Jenin during the second Intifada, who was killed in an IDF operation in 2002. Jrar had planned to bomb a residential tower.

The IDF released a video showing heavy mechanical equipment destroying a house after a terrorist opened fire on troops. It was unclear whether the footage was related to Jrar or to another incident.

“Our security forces carried out a complex and successful operation to apprehend the killers of Rabbi Raziel Shevach… The terrorists must know that they have no place to hide,” said Defense Minister Avigdor Liberman.

The army said the operation was ongoing as units searched for additional suspects. There were continued reports of clashes between Palestinians and IDF forces and Palestinian sources in Jenin told TPS that three Palestinians had been killed in the clashes, and that IDF troops were  surrounding a home where a fourth suspect was believed to be barricaded inside.

Shevach, a 35-year-old father of six, was murdered in a drive by shooting near the outpost of Havat Gilad in Samaria on January 9.
