Freak Hail Storm Brings Seventh Plague to Argentinian Heartland

On Thursday, residents of Cordoba in central Argentina were forced to relive the seventh plague of Egypt when the heavens opened up, dumping an astounding five feet of frozen hail on the city in just fifteen minutes.

Upon closer inspection, it became clear that as dramatic and powerful as the hailstorm in Argentina was, it lacked an essential element that the Bible states characterized the plague in Egypt: fire.

The hail was very heavy—fire flashing in the midst of the hail—such as had not fallen on the land of Egypt since it had become a nation. Exodus 9:24

Even without the added element of fire, the Argentinian version of hail was devastating enough. Roads were closed as some unfortunate travellers got stuck in their vehicles for several hours until road crews managed to free their vehicles. Cars and homes were damaged by hailstones reportedly as large as tennis balls. Many families, terrified by this unusual phenomenon, chose to evacuate. Crop damage was reported as cornfields were battered into the ground.

Though there were no injuries, one woman had to be rescued and treated for hypothermia after becoming stuck while driving her motorcycle.

Fire Chief Martin Bustos said meteorologists issued alerts before the storm hit but they were caught off guard by the amount of hail that fell from the heavens.

Roads were cleared and life returned to normal by the evening.
