At the first full day of the inaugural Christian Media Summit in Jerusalem, one theme was clear: Christian journalists have a Biblical responsibility to spread the word of Israel’s blessings and challenges to the world.

“We have to get this story out,” urged Gordon Robertson, CEO of the Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN), as he spoke to a room full of international Christian media assembled in Jerusalem for a four-day summit on Monday. “Israel has made a huge difference.”

Robertson emphasized the Biblical imperative for Christians to support Israel, pointing to Psalm 126.

When Hashem restores the fortunes of Tzion —we see it as in a dream—our mouths shall be filled with laughter, our tongues, with songs of joy. Then shall they say among the nations, “Hashem has done great things for them!” Psalms 126:1-2

“For you, covering Israel, remember that verse,” Robertson told the journalists. “You can be a part of that fulfillment, ‘the Lord has done great things for them’.”

He spoke about the importance of recognizing Israel’s contributions to the world and condemning efforts to harm it, including United Nations resolutions which seek to sever ties between Israel and the Jewish people.

“As a Christian, I say, ‘No way, that should never happen,’” he said, to loud applause from the audience.

“As Christian journalists, and Christians who live in Israel, this is an amazing time,” added Erin Zimmerman, director and writer of “In Our Hands: the Battle for Jerusalem”, a film bringing the Six Day War to life. “We have this opportunity to build a partnership.”

She encouraged reporters to appreciate “where you are in history. God has put you at this wonderful place where there’s such a [remarkable] friendship now” between Israel and Christian supporters.

Zimmerman also thanked the Israeli government, which organized the first-ever Christian Media Summit, for the “amazing privilege” of participating.

Over the course of the four-day media summit in Jerusalem, the first of its kind, dozens of Christian broadcasters, publishers, journalists and communicators from all over the world will attend lectures, panels and discussions on the biggest issues, both political and religious, facing Israel. Participants will also tour Jerusalem’s holy sites and have the opportunity to meet Israeli leaders and thinkers in the fields of innovation, security, and Biblical archaeology, among others.
