Three Syrian mortars fell in the Golan on Friday afternoon, prompting an immediate Israel Defense Forces (IDF) response against Syrian targets associated with the Assad regime and, on Sunday, an attack on a Syrian camp run by pro-government forces. The Sunday strikes, which hit close to the Golan Heights, killed three Syrian fighters, said military officials.

The IDF released a statement saying that the mortars seemed to be spillover fire and were not a deliberate attack targeting Israel. The mortars caused no damage or casualties. Nevertheless, Israel has a policy of holding governments responsible for any itinerant fire that crosses its borders.

The spokesperson said that the IDF “will not tolerate any attempt to damage the State of Israel’s sovereignty and the security of its residents and sees the Syrian regime responsible for anything that occurs on its territory.”

Al Masdar (AMN), an Arabic news service, reported that an armed Israeli drone conducted a strike in Syria Friday evening. According to an Al-Masdar News source, a Syrian army artillery unit came under drone fire at the village of Abu Al-Nada. The news source reported that Syrian anti-aircraft batteries opened fire but did not hit the drone.
