Not Lone Wolves

It has been a horrible 24 hours of terrorism in the hills of Judea. Thirty-eight year old Dafna Meir was brutally stabbed and murdered at the entrance to her home in Otniel in the presence of her young children. The very next morning, a 30 year old pregnant woman, Michal Froman, was stabbed repeatedly in the village of Tekoa. She is now fighting for her life in a Jerusalem hospital.

These two attacks have typified the hundreds of attacks that ordinary Israelis have suffered from in recent months. A substantial number of them have been multiple stabbings and most of the recent attacks have been carried out in Judea, in Samaria, or in eastern Jerusalem – in the biblical heartland of Israel. After each attack, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other Cabinet members promise to catch the perpetrator. They tell us that it’s very difficult to stop “lone wolf” attacks, but that the individual “wolves” will be hunted down.BIN-OpEd-Experts-300x250(1)

Promises and all good intentions aside, the concept of lone wolf attacks does not apply to the current situation. The sad fact is that Israel’s political leadership should, and probably does know better, but is avoiding stating the truth because of the political implications. While the terror machine has been sure to hit a variety of places in order to spread terror throughout the broader Israeli populace, it’s not an accident that most of the recent attacks have been in the biblical heartland. There are no lone wolves. These attacks are being coordinated and financed by the Palestinian Authority (PA), whose ideological wolves understand that the biblical heartland, where the biblical prophets and judges walked, is Israel’s raison d’etre, its basis for the Jewish claim to the Land of Israel. They know that when they attack Judea, Samaria, and Jerusalem, they are putting an Islamic knife in the heart of the people of Israel and the God of Israel in the name of Allah. Isolated “lone wolves” don’t plan such a terror wave. Individuals don’t stab pregnant women because of “frustration” or imaginary “rage”, but they do if they’ve been led to believe that they will be rewarded financially or sexually for fulfilling the Islamic precept of Jihad, or holy war against non-Muslims. The Palestinian Authority of Mahmoud Abbas and its terrorist organizations, along with the PA’s government-controlled media is the real culprit.

Rather than just hunting down the so-called lone wolves with their bloody knives, the main targets should be the official wolves and wild donkeys that sit in Ramallah, Shechem, Hebron, and Gaza – ordering, encouraging, and financing the terrorism. Their headquarters should be attacked mercilessly and leveled to the ground, and their leadership should be deported from the Land of Israel.

The fear of world criticism has crippled Israel’s political leaders. They know full well that only such a proactive approach will sharply reduce the attacks, but because of the feared international abuse of Israel, they feel that their hands are tied. Furthermore, some of Israel’s leaders claim that anarchy will result from any weakening of the PA.

Every responsible member of the Israeli Cabinet, as a public servant, must answer the following question and then take appropriate action: What are you more concerned about avoiding – anarchy in the PA, critical UN resolutions, or the deaths of many more Israeli civilians?
