What is Iran Hiding? Islamic Republic Threatens to Cancel Nuclear Deal Amid Probe

Iran has threatened to cancel the nuclear deal with world powers unless an investigation in the country’s alleged nuclear related weapons research is canceled, AFP reported.

A top Iranian security official made the announcement on Sunday after the head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) warned that a probe into Iran’s military nuclear activities would not be “black and white.”

Admiral Ali Shamkhani, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said anything short of completely closing the investigation would force the Iranian government to reconsider its participation in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.

The IAEA investigation includes allegations that up until 2003, the Islamic Republic conducted research into how to compile materials for and build a nuclear weapon. Iran has denied the claims.

According to the UN watchdog agency, a recent report has confirmed that Iran did violate several terms of the nuclear agreement with world powers by increasing its uranium stockpile by 460.2 kilograms over the last three months.

Under the terms of the deal, Iran’s stockpile of low-enriched uranium cannot reach more than 300 kilograms. A senior western diplomat commenting on the report told Reuters that the increase is a result of normal fluctuation and “there is nothing special in that.”
