The Noose Grows Tighter, the Left’s Denial Deepens

Tomorrow, in Paris, UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee will vote on whether Israel has “endangered” the “Old City of Jerusalem and its Walls.”

Dread. I am feeling dread–but more than that, I am feeling both determined and furious. The noose grows tighter, the denial deepens. Arab Muslims are calling for “filthy” Jewish blood–and praising the “holy” blood of those Muslim martyrs willing to shed that blood via sword, cleaver, stone, knife, gun, bomb, or car-ramming attack.

The world says nothing and does nothing other than call for “restraint” on both sides. The world, itself addicted to Jewish blood and faraway drama, waits for the next inevitable outrage.

On September 30, 2015, the UN flew the flag of a country that has never existed–that of “Palestine”–a flag that signifies the Arab Muslim desire to “nuke” Israel as soon as it can.BIN-OpEd-Experts-300x250(1)

On October 1, 2015, American Secretary of State John Kerry and American Ambassador to the UN Samantha Power were conspicuously “absent,” called away by President Obama, precisely when Prime Minister Netanyahu spoke at the UN.

On October 18, 2015, in a fashion that has been challenged as completely unconstitutional, the American President ordered the government to prepare the process of lifting American sanctions against Iran–a known terror-state, an entity that continues to vow death to both the Big Satan (America) and Little Satan (Israel), a state that carried out the bombing of the Jewish Center in Argentina and that still holds Americans as prisoners.

On October 20, 2015, UNESCO’S World Heritage Center released adocument concerning the “Old City of Jerusalem and its Walls.” In effect, they are going to decide whether the Western Wall is in “danger” of being destroyed by Israel!

UNESCO was utterly unable to protect the Buddhas of Bamiyan nor did they have the legal power to hold the Taliban accountable. Similarly, UNESCO could not protect Shiite mosques, shrines, and tombs in Mosul and ancient artifacts in the Mosul museum as well as the tomb of the prophet Daniel; Sufi shrines near Tripoli; churches in Syria; the Nineveh Wall in Al-Tahrir; the Syrian Gateway Lion sculptures; the entire city of Nimrud, an ancient Assyrian city in Iraq. Nor could UNESCO hold ISIS accountable.

This past summer I spent some time with one of UNESCO’s Scandinavian employees who admitted, sadly, that UNESCO had no “legal powers” and that even if they approached the UN General Assembly or Security Council that they, too, lacked such authority.

The proposal calls upon the body to “decide to retain the Old City of Jerusalem and its Walls on the List of World Heritage in Danger.”

Oh, they should–but the danger is coming entirely from the Palestinian Authority which has been neatly accusing Israel of the kind of damage that they alone have inflicted, to date, and over a long period of time, to this holy site.

The fact that UNESCO has even considered this proposal, brought by the Palestinian Authority, places Israel at the same base level as the Taliban and ISIS.

The outrage is this: Israel has uniquely protected the Temple Mount and the Western Wall. The Palestinian Authority has been illegally excavating the earth and the layers beneath the Temple Mount, all in order to deny any Jewish history in that very place–and it is a history which pre-dates Islam by thousands of years.

Israeli archeologists have watched where Palestinians dump that earth and have been combing through it for artifacts for many years. And they have found definitive treasures.

Tomorrow, the six Arab members (Algeria, Egypt, Kuwait, Morocco, Tunisia, and the UAE) on UNESCO’s Executive Board will present this resolution for a vote. Even if this is only symbolic, UNESCO is, essentially, voting on Israel’s right to control and/or have access to the Western Wall (the Kotel), the site holiest to Jews.

The resolution may be unenforceable but still, it is a complete outrage. It accuses the “Israeli Occupation authorities and extreme settler groups in the Old City”  (!) of “illegal” and “harmful” excavations which constitute “harmful interventions.” It regrets “damage caused by Israeli security forces on October 30, 2014”; “further regrets the damage by Israel, the Occupying Power, of the historic ceramics atop the main gates of the Dome of the Rock”;etc.

For anyone who has not yet seen Gloria Greenfield’s brilliant film Body and Soul, please see it now. Expert after expert confirms the historical, archeological, legal, and theological basis for a Jewish Israel.

Last night, my colleague Lauri Regan, tried to mount a rally in opposition to a Blood Libel speech given by Gideon Levy and sponsored by Students for Justice in Palestine, a group which fights for the right to preach lies and hate. Westchester Jewish honchos–yes, Jewish honchos–caused Regan’s valiant attempt to be less than optimal. The honcho approach had been: “Sha’ shtil,” no one will come unless we draw attention to it. More than 120, probably mainly Jewish people, came to hear Levy; no more than 50 came to exercise their same First Amendment rights to protest what he stood for and this use of tax-payer money. (Levy was speaking in the Town Hall of Greenburgh.)

Thus, in addition to dread and anger, I am also a bit heartbroken.

How blind are those who will not see… For years now, I have been imploring and warning Jews to take stock of the gathering anti-Jewish and anti-Israel Jihad, and about how “politically correct” Western progressives have joined the forces of barbarism over and above those of civilization. For my troubles, I and others have all been demonized as “racist Islamophobes.”

The Jews still worship politically correct “left liberalism,” which is their definition of Western civilization at its finest. They are responding only toRabbi Hillel’s second question. As Jews, they stand for the “other,” and for relieving the pain and sorrow of the “other,” even if that “other” wishes the death of Jews and the death of the Jewish state.

Even now, as Jewish blood is flowing in the streets of the Holy Land.

Even now, as world powers isolate and defame Israel even further.

Even now…..
