Shurat HaDin-Israel Law Center, the Tel Aviv-based nonprofit human-rights NGO leading the global fight against the financial side of terrorism, announced a mission-critical fund-raising campaign for its Law Student Internship Program via CauseMatch, a novel crowdfunding website that grants every donation.

Shurat HaDin, led by its president, Nitsana Darshan-Leitner, works through the courts to fight terrorism, defend Israel and the Israel Defense Forces and challenge Israel-delegitimization efforts like the boycott-divestment-sanctions (BDS) movement. Shurat HaDin also educates lawyers, law students and the general public in Israel advocacy.

The Law Student Internship brings together law students from top schools worldwide. Closely supervised by Shurat HaDin’s staff, the law students do legal research and help write legal materials for cases that the firm is litigating or planning. The students also hear lectures by internationally renowned attorneys, participate in workshops and take field trips to Israeli military and legal installations.

“Through the Law Student Internship Program, Shurat HaDin deeply develops law students’ understanding of the legal and political challenges that Israel faces, while immersing them in our proven advocacy strategies,” Ms. Darshan-Leitner said.

“The students can then apply what they’ve learned in their home countries and communities and become fully fledged advocates for Israel and the global Jewish community, in the courtroom and in everyday life.”

Shurat HaDin’s law students join the program motivated to advocate for Israel, and the internship gives them the tools and knowledge to engage the country’s opponents in the courts and in everyday life. And they are doing it: They’re publishing pro-Israel content in their college newspapers and in blogs and other social-networking outlets, and they’re participating in and organizing rallies and bringing in speakers.

“When Shurat HaDin’s student interns complete the program, they actively advocate for Israel,” Ms. Darshan-Leitner says. “The ripple effect is tangible.”

The connection to CauseMatch makes the process of donating to support the student internships simple while tripling the power of every dollar donated. Because the internship is so effective, a group of matching donors have agreed to give $2 for every $1 donated to the cause.

But the key condition is that CauseMatch is all or nothing: Shurat HaDin must meet its fundraising goal of $15,000 — which matching donors will triple to $45,000 — or it gets nothing.
