ISIS has claimed yet another victim via beheading after announcing that it executed British aid worker David Haines.
The terror group said that Haines’s death was in response to British Prime Minister David Cameron’s decision to enter into an alliance with the US and other countries against ISIS militants.
The radical Islamist group released a video showing a masked militant beheading Haines. Britain’s Foreign Office is working to verify the authenticity of the video which they said would mark “another disgusting murder.”
Haines, 44, was last seen in Syria in March 2013 when he was abducted by ISIS militants while working for an international aid agency. A father of two from Scotland, Haines was working with the French aid agency ACTED.
Haines is the third person executed by ISIS by beheading over the last several weeks. James Foley, an American journalist, was shown being beheaded in a video released on August 19. American-Israeli journalist Steven Sotloff was killed in the same manner and a video of his execution was released on September 2.
The video showing Haines’s death, called “A Message to the Allies of America,” is believed to have been carried out by the same British accented man who killed Foley and Sotloff. In the video, the executioner says that the British government’s alliance with the US will only “accelerate your destruction” and will force the British people into “another bloody and unwinnable war.”
Haines, who was forced to read a script drafted by ISIS, said that he held Cameron directly responsible for his execution.
“You followed Americans into Iraq, following the trend of British Prime Ministers who cannot find the courage to say no to Americans,” he said. “Unfortunately, it is we the British public, that in the end that will pay a price for our parliament’s selfish decisions.”
The executioner demanded that the US end air strikes against jihadists in Iraq. “This British man has to pay the price for your promise, Cameron,” he said. “Ironically, he has spent a decade of his life serving under the same Royal Air Force that is responsible for delivering those arms. Your evil alliance with America which continues to strike the Muslims of Iraq and most recently bombed the Haditha Dam will only accelerate your destruction.”
The video ends with a threat to kill Alan Henning, a second British aid worker.
Cameron tweeted out a statement late Saturday night saying that “the murder of David Haines is an act of pure evil. My heart goes out to his family who have shown extraordinary courage and fortitude.”
Israel, who is part of the US-led alliance, has been providing the US with sensitive intelligence about Western fighters who go abroad to join ISIS as well as satellite imagery on ISIS positions in the Middle East.
Israeli spy satellites have better access to the Middle East than those of the US. According to an anonymous Western official, the Pentagon has been relying on Israeli imagery to “fill out its information and get a better battle damage assessment” in the aftermath of airstrikes.
