Outgoing Israeli President Shimon Peres continues to heap voluminous words of praise on Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas, describing him as “the best partner that Israel has and the best we have had. I’ve known him for twenty years and he’s a man of his words and of courage. …We shouldn’t miss an opportunity to make peace with him.”
Despite criticizing the kidnapping, Abbas, who, unlike his Hamas colleagues knows well how to speak out of both sides of his mouth, has recently accused Israel of “killing Palestinians in cold blood,” and has denied that there is “credible information” that his PA unity partner Hamas is responsible for the kidnapping . Furthermore, Abbas’s PA is the world’s largest employer of terrorists and brazenly continues to pay the salaries of the Fatah, Hamas, and Islamic Jihad terrorists to this very day, having continued and institutionalized the vile system that was originally put in place by his notorious predecessor, Yasser Arafat.
Peres, who has lived for over 90 years, is smart enough to know that by calling Abbas a partner, he is essentially praising and justifying this partner’s clearly documented financing of terrorism against Israeli citizens. Given Mr. Peres’s shameful record as the architect of the Oslo Accords, which caused the greatest waves of terrorism in Israel’s history, his recurring, flowery praise of Abbas should come as no surprise.
Abbas is indeed an appropriate partner for Peres, for the two have enabled the bus bombings, the ambushes, and yes, the kidnappings. Many thousands of us, Israelis who were wounded and maimed by “Palestinian” bullets, rocks, and bombs, yet survived, will not forget the self-serving arrogance of this false peace promoter. We will not forgive, not because we oppose forgiveness, but because we cannot forgive those who don’t sincerely request forgiveness.
Peres has never shown any remorse for his actions that have torn apart and traumatized so many Israeli families and communities. And we certainly won’t forget his crimes, for to do so would be a betrayal of the many thousands of Jews who were brutally killed or wounded, all for the glory of his beloved “peace process”. And that is sadly, as he leaves office, the true legacy of Shimon Peres.
