And after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah facing Mamre–the same is Hebron–in the land of Canaan. (Genesis 23:19)

The popular Israeli-based travel and food show, “Joy of Israel with Jamie Geller,” released a new episode set in the holy city of Hebron. Geller, together with her husband and young children, take the viewer on a tour of some of the main sites of the holy city, including Cave of Machpelah, the burial place of Abraham and Sara, Isaac and Rebecca, and Jacob and Leah. With their lively children underfoot, the Gellers literally walk in the footsteps of Abraham on the original stone path that leads into Hebron. The episode continues deep inside the Cave of Machpela, as Jamie Geller and her family take in the spirituality and aura of prayers at the burial place of the Patriarchs and Matriarchs.

Jamie Geller describes the behind-the-scenes research for her Hebron episode. “I began my research by taking my family on a tour with the famed Rabbi Simcha Hochbaum… I signed up for his weekly tour sponsored by the Hebron Fund. Our tour with Rabbi Simcha was otherworldly. We were moved to tears in prayer and awe as he spoke about the past, present, and future of this small piece of real estate, the first piece of real estate bought by Abraham in Israel.”

Geller continues by saying, “The Hebron Fund raises money for the improvement of daily life of the approximately 90 families living in Hebron. It is because of the incredible sacrifice and determination of these 90 families that we are able to freely visit this 2nd holiest city in the world.”

The Hebron Fund’s support extends to funding for all parks, playgrounds, recreation centers, after-school programs, libraries, and summer youth activities; as well as sponsorship of public cultural and educational events in Hebron. In addition the Fund aids the maintenance and development of the synagogues in the Cave of Machpela, the ancient Avraham Avinu Synagogue and other religious institutions in the area.

Geller is a new immigrant to Israel who travels the country to showcase its beauty and culinary attractions. The goal of this new episode, Geller says, is “to ensure that this sacred city is both top of mind and a destination place for every tourist and resident of Israel.” As the show also features culinary aspects of regions in Israel, Geller makes a stop at Holy Cacao, an artisanal chocolate factory situated just 20 minutes south of Hebron, and makers of fine kosher chocolate.
