The Israeli missile defense system, the Iron Dome, shot down a rocket fired from the Gaza Strip at the Israeli city of Ashkelon early Monday morning, according to The Times of Israel. A second rocket fell in an unoccupied area. No injuries were reported.

The rocket fire comes just hours after Israel announced the names of the 26 prisoners they will release on Tuesday as part of the ongoing peace negotiations with the Palestinian Authority. Five of the 26 prisoners are Gazans. All are convicted murderers.

On Sunday, two mortar shells from the Gaza Strip landed in Israel in the afternoon, the Israeli military said. There were no injuries or damage.

The rocket fire was disrupted several months of relative quiet. No organization has claimed responsibility thus far.

Last Monday, the IDF uncovered a bomb planted on the Gaza security fence that was intended for Israeli military vehicles. The soldiers disposed of the IED safely and no injuries were reported.

Also last week, the army killed a suspected terrorist during a shootout in the West Bank. Islamic Jihad, which often shoots rockets out of the Strip, claimed Mohammed Aazi was a member of its organization. Aazi was suspected by Israel to be the mastermind of last year’s Tel Aviv bus bombing which left 20 injured.
