When the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and shall cast out many nations before thee, the Hittite, and the Girgashite, and the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite, seven nations greater and mightier than thou; and when the LORD thy God shall deliver them up before thee, and thou shalt smite them; then thou shalt utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor show mercy unto them (Deuteronomy 7:2-3)

The Tamarod Movement in Egypt has called for a voiding of its 1979 Camp David Peace Accord with Israel as well as a referendum on accepting US aid. The Tamarod, or Rebellion, movement in Egypt has called for the country, currently plunged into a chaotic and bloody civil war, to cut all strategic ties to Israel and the United States, including the Camp David Peace Accords between Egypt and the Jewish State in 1979, Daily News Egypt reported on Saturday.

The call came after United States President Barack Obama announced that the US would not be taking part in a previously-scheduled military exercise with the Egyptian army. Obama’s decision was deemed “unacceptable” US interference in Egyptian political affairs by the Tamarod movement, according to the Jerusalem Post. Despite the aborted exercise, the US did stop short of canceling its annual $1.3 billion aid to Egypt.

The Tamarod, who played a large role in ousting former-President Mohammed Morsi, have now began to rally against the US and Israel because it feels it has hurt their interests in the region by meddling in internal Egyptian affairs. The Tamarod called for a referendum on banning US aid, canceling its peace agreement with Israel and rewording other security-related treaties it has made.

Daily News Egypt quotes the movement’s media coordinator Mai Wahba as saying the campaign will collect signatures from people, and that there was no timetable for the campaign yet.

The “No to US aid” campaign has already gathered 300,000 signatures, according to the JPost.

Thus Far, Israel has not proffered any response to the call, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu instructing his ministers to avoid public comments about Egypt . However, it is believed that many in Israel are worried about President Obama’s recent actions in the region and how they may affect Israel.

“Eyebrows have been raised,” the official said. Israel is ultimately worried that any move that could be seen as a wavering of support of the Egyptian military could embolden pro-Muslim Brotherhood Islamic radicals. Israel is trying to hang on to its 1979 peace accords with its Southern neighbor, with Egypt serving as one of Israel’s only strategic allies in the region, as well as aiding Israel crackdown on weapons smuggling from Egypt to the Gaza Strip, which is iron-fistedly ruled by the terrorist group Hamas.

The relationship between Israel and Egypt has been tenuous ever since the ousting of former-President Hosni Mubarak in 2011. Both countries are hoping to stem violence originating out of the Sinai Peninsula. Last week, the Iron Dome anti-missile system shot down a rocket headed for the resort city of Eilat. This was the first time the Eilat-based Iron Dome had been activated.

Magles Shoura al-Mujahideen, a hardline Islamist group, said it carried out the attack in retaliation for the deaths of four militants in an airstrike in Sinai a week ago. Israel denies any role in that attack.
