The head of Hamas, Ismael Haniyeh, has threatened the ‘flag march’ from taking place saying that the ramifications will be “serious.”

The Flag March is a traditional march through Arab populated areas of the Old City of Jerusalem to commemorate the liberation of Jerusalem during the Six-day War. This year, the march is set to take place on Sunday, May 29. The march begins at the Damascus Gate of the Old City.

Haniyeh said in an official statement: “We will not allow the Flag March to pass through the Old City and Damascus Gate. The ramifications will be serious.”

Israeli MK Itamar Ben-Gvir responded by calling him a clown while addressing Haniyeh’s threat by calling his bluff. In a tweet on Sunday wrote: “We already heard your threats, you clown. When I opened my headquarters in the Shimon Hatzadik (neighborhood), you threatened and did nothing; you participated when I went onto the Temple Mount again. You were emboldened only when Bennett and (Yair) Lapid blocked my entrance to the Damascus Gate. My only question is why Israel hasn’t killed him in a targeted assassination.”

Moshir Al-Misri, another Hamas official, also threatened the Flag march by firing rockets, saying: “The Zionist enemy needs to understand that sacrificing sacrifices or raising flags in the Temple Mount complex will result in destroying their national aspirations. Those flags will be taken down by opposition from rockets.”
