The former prime minister’s outspoken youngest son, Yair Netanyahu argued for Israel’s Jewish origins, using Jesus and Easter as proof.

In a multi-post tweet on Sunday, Yair wrote to his 132,000 Twitter followers:

This year, Easter and and Passover are celebrated on the same day. You might not know it, but the “last supper”, was actually the celebration of the ‘Passover Seder’ by Jesus and his disciples (all of whom were Jewish) . The supper took place in Mount Zion in Jerusalem, the place were [Sic] the word  “Zionism” comes from.”

Easter was celebrated on the Gregorian calendar on April 17. Those who follow the Julian calendar will celebrate it next Sunday, April 24.

“In many European languages, the word for ‘Easter’ is similar to “Passover”, for example -Påske in Norwegian. This shows the ancient connection and common root of Eater [Sic] and Passover and of Judaism and Christianity.”

Yair has discussed Jesus online before. In July 2019, left-wing Arab anti-Israel personality Linda Sarsour garnered mass criticism on social media when she tweeted that Jesus was a Palestinian:

“Jesus was Palestinian of Nazareth and is described in the Quran as being brown copper skinned with wooly hair,” Sarsour tweeted. She responded to criticism by doubling down, tweeting, “Folks reported my tweet that Jesus was a Palestinian. Twitter was obviously like this doesn’t violate our standards. It’s also true. Jesus was born in Bethlehem which is in Palestine. Move on”

Yair Netanyahu responded:

“Are you that stupid? Bethlehem was a Jewish city! It means “house of bread”. It’s the city where king David – the most famous king of the Jews were born! On the cross above Jesus’ head was the sign “INRI”- “Iesvs Nazarenvs Rex Ivdaeorvm”, which means in Latin, Jesus of Nazareth king of the Jews! The Bible say that Jesus was born and raised in Judea!”
