Did Ukraine lie about Russia bombing Holocaust Memorial?

Ukrainian authorities claimed that a strike ordered by Russia on a TV tower in Kyiv also damaged the Babyn Yar Holocaust memorial site.

However Ynet Israeli military journalist Ron Ben Yishai, who is on the ground in Ukraine, reported Wednesday that the Babi Yar Holocaust Memorial and center complex is dunamaged.

“Russia has launched a missile attack on the territory where the Babyn Yar memorial complex is located. These villains are killing Holocaust victims for the second time,” Andriy Yermak, chairman of the Ukrainian Presidential Office, said on Twitter.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky even used the incident to guilt trip Jews worldwide, urging them to break their silence on the Russia-Ukraine conflict. “We were all bombed in Kyiv last night. And we all died again in Babi Yar from the missile strike,” he said.

Zelensky then questioned the Russian objective of bombing Babi Yar, which Russia said was a military target asking with sarcasm which ‘military installations’ Russia wanted to bomb next.

Even US president Joe Biden’s deputy envoy to monitor and combat antisemitism Aaron Keyak jumped at the opportunity to blast Putin, saying: “Putin’s claim that Ukraine is a hotbed of Nazism is a blatant fabrication and yet another of the false pretexts of his war, his war of choice.”

There’s just one problem – Russia never bombed the memorial at all.

On Tuesday, the Russian missile that allegedly hit Babyn Yar lightly damaged a Jewish cemetery and a sports complex. It did not hit a new synagogue or the “field of remembrance,” according to Natan Sharansky, chairman of the advisory board for the site’s memorial center.

Following the incident, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelemskyy, who himself is Jewish, tweeted: “To the world: what is the point of saying «never again» for 80 years, if the world stays silent when a bomb drops on the same site of Babyn Yar? At least five were killed. History repeating…”

Sharansky rejected the notion that Russia intentionally targeted the memorial. “The bomb was, of course, targeting the radio tower,” Sharansky said, but came within 100 yards of the synagogue,” he said.

If Ukraine would go so low as to fabricate the bombing of a Holocaust Memorial, what else might they be lying about?
