Turkey was hit with a massive snowstorm on Monday.
The storm, which also reached Greece, wreaked havoc bringing both country’s transport infrastructure to a grinding halt.
The storm disrupted both road and air traffic on Monday in Athens as well as neighboring Turkey’s biggest city – Istanbul. The snow blanketed most of Greece and Turkey as well as some Aegean islands.
The Greek government declared a state of emergency on Tuesday in the greater Athens area.
“We ask citizens not to leave their homes. It will be a rough night,” Climate Change and Civil Protection Minister Christos Stylianides said in a statement. “The height of the snow is unprecedented in certain areas.”
