In response, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken flew to Ukraine. The White House said on Wednesday that they are providing $200 million in military aid to Ukraine amid rising fears of a Russian invasion.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki said on Tuesday: “We believe we’re now at a stage where Russia could at any point launch an attack on Ukraine. I would say that’s more stark than we have been.”

Psaki added that the standoff at Ukraine’s border is what she deemed an “extremely dangerous situation.”

A senior U.S. State Department official said that the military assistance was given the green light back in December as part of Washington’s efforts to help Ukraine defend itself. The official was unauthorized to talk about the matter publicly before Blinken’s meetings in Kyiv speaking on condition of anonymity.

“We are committed to Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and will continue to provide Ukraine the support it needs,” the official told ABC News.

The announcement came as Blinken made a snap visit to Kyiv after hearing other White House officials increase warnings about a potential Russian invasion of Ukraine. The Biden Administration said on Tuesday that Russia can at any minute wage war on Ukraine.

Blinken also said that Russian President Vladimir Putin plans to significantly boost Russian military presence on the Ukrainian border, which stands at about 100,000 troops strong.

“We know that there are plans in place to increase that force even more on very short notice and that gives President Putin the capacity, also on very short notice, to take further aggressive action against Ukraine,” Blinken said.
