The Jerusalem Municipality has issued a demolition order for the “Golden Dome” building in the Beit Safafa neighborhood of Jerusalem. “This is a huge construction, on a very large scale, built without a permit, without planning, while placing a finished fact on the ground, while violently and blatantly disregarding the rule of law,” the demolition order said. Construction of the building was completed several months ago. The demolition order reads: “There is public in issuing the demolition order against the prohibited works due to the fact that the designation of the land is an area designated for a public building. This is a prohibited construction in an area of about 760 meters.”
“This is a huge construction, on a very large scale, built without a permit, without planning, while establishing facts on the ground, with violent and blatant disregard for the rule of law,” read the order that was published in the “Mynet Jerusalem”.
The Al-Rahman Mosque in Beit Safafa, noe of four mosques in the neighborhood, was built in 1948 but was recently refurbished and dramatically enlarged. Unlike the Dome of the Rock on the Temple Mount, the dome of the Al Rahman Mosque is painted with a reflective gold colered paint.
Maor Tzemach, chairman of Lech Yerushalayim, and Matan Peleg, chairman of the Im Tirtzu (If You Will It ) movement, who exposed the construction of the illegal dome, said: “We congratulate the Jerusalem Municipality and Mayor Moshe Leon on issuing the demolition order. The last thing Jerusalem needs is more radical actions through illegal construction. The dome is intended to be another source of violence and rioting and therefore rapid action by the municipality is needed here. Indictments must also be filed against those responsible whose identities we know and we will act on the issue. It is forbidden to restrain oneself when faced with the illegal construction carried out by the Islamic Movement in Jerusalem.”
