An enlisted border policewoman is on the brink of being fired after struggling with the daughter of a mukhtar in Jerusalem last month reports Mako. A mukhtar is a leader of an Arab village or district. The event has caused widespread controversy in the border police community in Israel. The policewoman, who is being referred to by the Israeli media as ‘Major A’, is considered to be a distinguished officer who has been the target of online harassment from Arab teenagers during operation ‘Guardians of the Wall.’

In the latest incident, sourced within the border police are saying that her termination will put a serious dent in the morale of the border police who see this as symbolic of the lack of support they face when facing off against violent criminals.

The incident occurred on November 4 when Major A was stationed at the Lion’s Gate. A teenage Arab woman approached her. At that point, a scuffle broke out between the two whereby each side claims to be the victim of the other’s attack.

Following the incident, the officer’s firearm was confiscated and was forced to take a paid leave. According to sources, the police are punishing her disproportionately because of the status of the complainant’s father as a mukhtar. The policewoman’s colleagues say that she was investigated by internal affairs after the mukhtar himself arrived with his entourage at the border police headquarters. They never told her what she was being investigated for only that she should hire a police-appointed attorney.

Last week, the policewoman was told that her continued employment was uncertain due to the file opened by internal affairs. The complainant claims that the policewoman inflicted wounds during the struggle between them. The policewoman is also being charged with falsifying the police report and submitting it to her superiors. She was interrogated by internal affairs for eight hours. She even showed them pictures immediately following the event showing scratches on her face that she charges were caused by the complainant.

According to the policewoman’s testimony, the complainant approached the officer’s post and began yelling inciteful sentiments such as “this is our land!” the officer told her investigators. “I and another officer asked her to move and allow us to execute our task. She refused and continued to yell. I moved her and in response, she pushed me. I didn’t fight back. My only goal was to move her from that location.”

During her hearing, the policewoman was accused of grabbing the complainant’s head and pushing it, forcing her to sit while choking and swearing at her. She was also accused of swearing at her father and making an obscene gesture towards him that was accompanied by insults. Her police report was also placed under scrutiny which states that the complainant swore, attacked, and scratched the policewoman’s face while she was trying to arrest her which compelled the policewoman to take control of her which caused the markings on her neck.

At the end of the policewoman’s hearing, a summary was written stating that her actions “stand in contrast to the values of the department you belong to, hurt the officer’s reputation, and in the public trust, and demonstrate unsuitability to serve on the force.” It also stated that “as a police officer, you are expected to operate in a professional and determined manner while honoring the integrity of all people as well as their basic rights, to operate with restraint, measure, and self-control even when you are responsible for transporting the detained.  Your attacking them is considered to be a grave act and has violated the complainant’s right to bodily autonomy.”

At the end of the hearing, internal affairs concluded that they are considering the termination of her employment. One border police source told Mako that it is “very strange how they want to fire a policewoman before her investigation with internal affairs is completed.”

Those who are close to the policewoman say that she is going through a rough time and it is difficult for her to function. “I risked my life, caught terrorists with my fellow officers and now they’re telling me I’m not suil=table to serve as a police officer. They prefer to believe the daughter of a mukhtar who is well connected and not me.”

“Now I feel like they have abandoned me” she added.

In response, the Israeli Police said: “The incident is currently being investigated by internal affairs and we do not comment on subjects of this nature.”
