The Connection Between the Bible and the Land of Israel

What is it about the Bible that continues to inspire people over 3,000 years after it was written?

When you think about it, the Bible is not read simply for its literary prowess, but rather because it has always spurred mankind to action. It has spawned three religions, is found in every hotel room across North America and most of Europe, and is the most popular printed book in history.

One could easily make a convincing argument that the Bible and those who have acted in its name are responsible for a large part of Western and European history.

The most astounding biblical prophecy to have come true to date would without a doubt be the return of the Jewish people to the Promised Land, not once, but twice throughout history. The most recent of these two returns commenced in the late 19th century and continues to this very day.

In fact, according to statistics recently published by the Ministry of Immigration and Absorption in Israel, the highest influx of immigrants to Israel in the past decade occurred this past year.

Epitomized throughout the entirety of the Old Testament, the connection between the Israelites and the land of Israel is a romance of Biblical proportions. This relationship, with its crests and troughs, is what is highlighted in the new commentary on the Bible, which is being published exclusively by Israel365.

In The Israel Bible, this unique commentary focuses especially on the beauty of the land and how the Israelites as a nation related to their home and their God through the connection with the land.

“While there are numerous Bibles in print today, including modern devotional editions dedicated to individual themes, the most central aspect of the Bible, the Land of Israel, has been until now entirely overlooked,” says Rabbi Naftali Weisz, Director of Israel365.

“References to the Land of Israel appear on nearly every page and the city of Jerusalem is specifically referred to hundreds of times throughout the Bible,” Weisz explained. “The Israel Bible seeks to fill this important void in Biblical literature by providing an original commentary to help explain God’s focus on the Land of Israel.”

The Israel Bible is being published one book per month and includes an English translation alongside the Hebrew text. Key proper nouns are transliterated for the convenience of the reader and the new edition includes a special commentary on one passage from each chapter that highlights the connection to the land. The highlighted passage is also transliterated and includes biblical hebrew lessons. The Israel Bible is laid out according to the conventional Jewish ordering of books and chapters.

“This edition would be terrific for teachers who run Bible classes, especially those that focus on learning about the importance of the land of Israel, and its relationship to the Israelites,” said senior editor Shira Schechter to Breaking Israel News.

Each book has an introduction which gives a short overview of the book, and ties the theme of the book to the land of Israel. Each one also includes a short biography of famous biblical commentators mentioned in the book.

“We are hoping to build other educational tools to help increase general knowledge and education about the Bible, including instructional webinars about each book, given by some of the top scholars and educators who live in Israel,” says Schechter.

“Never before has the Land of Israel been at the forefront of the world’s attention as it is in our generation. As we seek to understand the world’s renewed interest in the Jewish Homeland, the need for The Israel Bible has never been greater,” said Weisz.
