The second potential major terror incident of the day was averted late Tuesday afternoon when a driver speeding through an army checkpoint was shot and killed by IDF forces.
The Sharon District Police reported that the driver intended to run over soldiers and civilians at the checkpoint when the forces opened fire on his car.
Eight Palestinian passengers were present in the car, two of whom were evacuated to Meir Hospital in Kfar Saba. All of the Palestinians were attempting to enter Israel illegally.
The report stated that the soldiers opened fire at a short distance from the checkpoint itself, when they realized that the car, bearing Israeli license plates, was aiming for them.
Earlier in the day, a pair of suspects were caught in central Israel for attempting to carry out what investigators believe to be an intended suicide attack.
Israeli Police and Border Patrol were deployed to track two Palestinian terrorist who illegally infiltrated Israel from Samaria. A massive manhunt from Tel Aviv to Netanya resulted in the arrest of the two men in the Arab- Israeli upper Galilee town of Taibe.
