In response to what the IDF noted was 135 rockets fired at Israel in under 24 hours on Sunday, the IAF struck some 50 terror sites in Gaza overnight.

The airstrikes targeted hidden rocket launchers, arms caches, weapons manufacturing sites and other terror activity locations.

Israel confirmed that a senior Hamas official was killed in one of the airstrikes. Mohammed al-Ghoul, who was responsible for handling the terror group’s finances and laundering money for terror activities.

In two other strikes, the IAF targeted two terrorists who were launching rockets towards Sderot.

Speaking at the start of the weekly Security Cabinet meeting on Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel will continue to strike Gaza as long as rockets continue to be fired on the Jewish state.

“Hamas is paying and will yet pay a heavy price for the crimes that it has perpetrated,” the prime minister threatened.

“In recent days we have proven that there is no immunity for those who fire at Israel’s citizens…We are determined to complete the mission. We are patient. Operation Protective Edge will continue until its goals are achieved,” he added.

Speaking to residents living in the Gaza belt, the prime minister issued words of encouragement to those affected by rocket fire.

“I appreciate your resilience. I appreciate your suffering and I share your pain. We will do our utmost to help you through these difficult days,” he said.

Since the collapse of ceasefire negotiations between Israel and Hamas in Cairo last week, terrorists operating out of the Strip have shot more than 570 rockets towards Israel. Hamas’s barrage has been continually intense, targeting major Israeli cities like Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.

Just before midnight on Sunday, terrorists unleashed a new round of rocket fire on southern Israel, with four of the rockets intercepted by the Iron Dome missile defense system.

Earlier on Sunday evening, Red Alert sirens were heard in Beit Shemesh and surrounding communities located in the Jerusalem Hills. One rocket was shot down by Iron Dome.

However, residents of Beit Shemesh told Breaking Israel News that several loud, ground shaking explosions were heard in the distance, indicating that the attack was comprised of several rockets.

As of Monday morning, terrorists have continued their rocket fire on Israel. Rumors abound about an impending ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinians.

Palestinian news agency Ma’an reported that developments have been made between the Israeli and Palestinian negotiating teams that could see a truce signed Monday evening.
