Three suspects have been arrested on Monday following the death of a young woman during an apparent exorcism.
The suspects include a sheikh, and a doctor..
According to police, a report was received on Saturday that a 26-year-old woman was taken to a clinic in the Bedouin town of Tel Sheva, where her death was declared.
An investigation was opened and her body was taken to perform an autopsy.
The woman felt sick and went to the clinic for treatment with a Bedouin sheikh, who “practices witchcraft” according to Channel 12 news, The sheikh then had her undergo an “exorcism ceremony,” the report stated.
In the middle of the ceremony, the woman collapsed and a doctor was called before she was taken to the clinic.
Three suspects — a 64-year-old, a 32-year-old and a 25-year-old — all of whom are residents of the town, Appeared at Beersheba Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
The older suspect is the sheikh who performed the exorcism and the 32-year-old is a doctor. The 25-year-old is the woman’s husband.
Moti Yosef, the widower’s lawyer, denied his client’s involvement in the case.
“My client doesn’t know what took place during the treatment aside from the fact that he placed her in treatment while still alive and sadly she exited it dead. He has nothing to do with her death. This is a tragedy,” he told Channel 12.
