The three stabbing attacks which took place in Jerusalem on Friday and Monday directly follow numerous examples of Fatah’s terror incitement , PMW has documented.
On Friday, a Palestinian doctor attempted to stab a security officer in Jerusalem’s Old City with a knife and was killed in the attack. Then on Monday, another Palestinian attacked soldiers at the Gush Etzion junction with a screwdriver. Hours later two Israeli teenagers were wounded at Jerusalem’s central bus station when a terrorist attacked them with a carving knife.
All three terrorists carried out their attacks following calls by PA President Mahmoud Abbas’s Fatah Movement for “an urgent popular uprising in all the Palestinian cities, villages, and refugee camps.”
Director of Palestinian Media Watch, Itamar Marcus, explained that PA term “popular uprising” means incitement to violence. “The PA leadership has developed the skills to openly incite terror using coded language that its people understand but most Israeli leaders don’t recognize,” he said.
“When Mahmoud Abbas and his PA call for a “popular uprising,” Israeli leaders and the international community as well erroneously believe he is calling for civil disobedience. However, Palestinians know that Abbas’ “popular uprising” includes terror with knives, car rammings, and even small arms fire. What makes it “popular” is that neither the PA nor Fatah leaders will be actively directing the terror as they did in the 2000-2005 terror campaign (intifada). It is a message from the PA that the leadership wants terror but the attacks are expected to come from individuals.”
The recent call made by Fatah in response to the recent escape of six terrorists from a high security prison, was deemed so important by the official PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida that it printed the message for “an urgent popular uprising” two days in a row, on September 9 and 10. Fatah added it “will stand together with the masses of our people alongside our heroic prisoners and will not leave them alone in the battle,” according to the newspaper’s report.
Similarly, at a procession in Jenin organized by Fatah in which hundreds of people took part, speakers “called upon the masses of our people to carry out a comprehensive popular uprising in all the districts of the homeland,” al-Hayat al-Jadida reported.
Fatah has been belligerent in insisting that the escaped terrorists are heroes, and in calling for Palestinians to make common cause with them against Israel.
Presidential Spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeina said there will be no peace or stability without the release of all prisoners and detainees, adding that the prisoners’ cause is a red line, and insisting that neither the Palestinian leadership nor its people will allow it to be crossed.
“We also hold the occupation government fully responsible for the lives of the six prisoners, as the attempt to search for them and reach them is based on criminal and systematic foundations, and harming their lives – if they find them – is liable to lead to a real explosion within the prisons and outside of them,” the PLO Commission of Prisoners’ Affairs warned on it’s Facebook page on September 6.
Two days later, an official PA TV newsreader reported: “The Fatah Movement emphasizes that the prisoners are a red line and it will not allow that they be harmed from any direction, and it noted that our entire people will stand against any action that the occupation state will attempt to carry out against our prisoners.”
