Israel has cleared for publication that it has recently arrested the ringleader of the terror cell responsible for the kidnapping and murder of three Israeli youth in June.
The three teens – Naftali Frenkel, 16; Gilad Shaar, 16; and Eyal Yifrach, 19 – were kidnapped from a hitchhiking post near Hebron on June 12 and shortly after murdered by terrorists. Their disappearance set off a two week, country wide man-hunt.
The disappearance of the boys set off tensions between Israel and the Palestinians. The news of the arrest comes after two months of conflict between Israel and Palestinians in Gaza, Judea and Samaria.
Hussam Kawasme, who was born in Hebron, was arrested in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Shufat. Under interrogation, Kawasme admitted to planning the attack.
Intelligence officials believe that Kawasme is the man who telephoned the two kidnappers, Marwan Kawasme and Amer Abu Aysha, after the abduction and murder of the three youth.
An emergency call placed by one of the teens before his death recorded part of the call between Kawasme and the kidnappers, who celebrated the death of the youth.
The two Hamas terrorists who carried out the attack disappeared from their homes the night of the attack. They both still remain at large.
