President Trump held a conference call with 4,500 participants on Thursday in which he reportedly referred to late-term abortions as “execution.”

During the invitation-only conference call, the president discussed recent attempts by Democratic lawmakers to advance a pro-abortion agenda. In particular, the president discussed a bill recently signed by New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo which allows abortions after 24 weeks if the mother’s health is at risk or if the pregnancy is not viable. Even more egregious was a bill presented in Virginia by Democratic Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam which would have removed a requirement that three doctors need to certify that a third-trimester abortion is necessary to protect a woman’s life or health. This bill failed in committee.

Friends of Zion founder Dr. Mike Evans was quoted in Charisma News as saying that President Trump categorized late-term abortions “[Trump] talked about what the governor of Virginia talked about, having to do with a baby, describes these services that’s outside the womb to a baby that is wrapped, and he said it’s an execution. That’s what he called it: ‘execution of a child.'”

During a radio interview with WTOP, Northam discussed the bill.

“[Third-trimester abortions are] done in cases where there may be severe deformities. There may be a fetus that’s nonviable. So in this particular example, if a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen. The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired. And then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother.”

The president had in the Oval Office several people to emphasize his commitment. Present were Melissa Ohden, who survived an abortion in the seventh month, and six-year-old Micah Pickering. Micah was born at 22-weeks in 2012 to Danielle and Clayton Pickering. Micah had heart surgery and was in intensive care for four months but except for chronic lung disease is healthy.

“We figured he was our baby, and he was what the Lord had given us, and we would just do everything we could,” his mother was quoted as saying at the Oval Office meeting with the president.

Also present was pro-life advocate Alveda King, niece of the civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

“He also said every child that is born is created in the image of God and that they all have dreams, and all deserve the right to reach their full potential. He also talked about that he had seen progress in the last two weeks on all this, and that he was hopeful that there could be significant legislation that he would be able to pass that proposes this agenda and that he looked forward to a time when there’d be a signing celebration at the White House.”

Previous to campaigning for the presidency, Trump described himself as “very pro-choice” but has since voiced a powerful commitment to the pro-life agenda. Upon being inaugurated into the White House, he reinstated the Mexico City Policy that blocks U.S. federal funding for non-governmental organizations that provide abortion counseling or referrals, advocate to decriminalize abortion or expand abortion service. This was expressed in his appointment of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. More recently, he defined his pro-life agenda in his State of the Union Address two weeks ago.

“There could be no greater contrast to the beautiful image of a mother holding her infant child than the chilling displays our Nation saw in recent days.  Lawmakers in New York cheered with delight upon the passage of legislation that would allow a baby to be ripped from the mother’s womb moments from birth.

These are living, feeling, beautiful babies who will never get the chance to share their love and dreams with the world.  And then, we had the case of the Governor of Virginia where he stated he would execute a baby after birth. To defend the dignity of every person, I am asking the Congress to pass legislation to prohibit the late-term abortion of children who can feel pain in the mother’s womb. Let us work together to build a culture that cherishes innocent life.  And let us reaffirm a fundamental truth: all children — born and unborn — are made in the holy image of God.”
